Hello,
Welcome to Halogear.
I am Danielle
Savage, founder of Halo Gear. This is my story of how I
ended up in my halo.In the spring of 2001 I went on
vacation at Club Med in Mexico. After an evening of
partying at their night club, a group of us decided to
go swimming. At the pool I dove into what I thought was
the deep end but hit my head instead at the bottom of
the shallow end. Amazingly I was not permanently
paralyzed and did not die. I was, however, temporarily
paralyzed and at that moment could neither swim nor
move. I would have drowned, but someone whom I had just
met came to my rescue, who happened to have had
lifeguard training and who instructed the rest of our
group on how to assist him in getting me out of the pool
without causing additional damage to my fractured
cervical spine. His name is Patrick Horseman and I owe
him my life. I spent three days in a very primitive
(some dirt floors) hospital in Mexico before being flown
back to the states in an ambulance jet. Back in San
Diego, California, the doctors told me they were going
to put this strange medieval looking contraption on me,
called a halo. That caused initially the worst pain I
could ever imagine. After a few days I was sent home. My
friends and family took turns caring for me full-time
the first month and a half until I was able to do at
least some things for myself. I spent eight long months
in the halo. When I realized there was nobody to talk to
who had been in a halo before, I became very lonely and
really wanted to talk to somebody who had had a similar
experience. Since then I have made it my mission to make
sure nobody has to go through this alone again, and to
help out with pep talk and with supplying items that
make the life of a halo wearer a little
easier. |
